Dona Kensinger’s Passing the Loss of a ‘Giant of the 20th Century’
To the Editor:
With the passing of Dona (Kaufman) Kensinger at the age of 95, Morrisons Cove in general and Martinsburg in particular have lost a “Giant of the 20th Century.” She graduated from Morrison Cove High in 1945, gained a teaching degree from Cedar Crest College and then returned home to join the faculty at her old high school.
Her obituary listed the many local civic organizations that greatly benefitted from her volunteering. She also meticulously researched and co-authoring an insightful history of Martinsburg titled “Heart of the Cove.”
Mrs. Kensinger was my typing instructor at MCHS. I reminded her of that fact, along with the observation that it was the most useful skill I learned in high school.
Dona’s husband George passed away in 2017. They were destined to be together. As she pointed out to me, for four years in high school, when seating was in alphabetical order, Dona Kaufman was always beside George Kensinger.
