Firehouse Café to Offer 'Wing Night' on Oct. 20

Williamsburg

During the Farm Show this year, many Williamsburg residents and visitors of the Farm Show were treated to something different in the Williamsburg Veteran's Memorial Building – the Firehouse Café.

The Firehouse Café was named because the Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Company owns the Community Center now and "when we have anything to sell there, the Firemen are always serving up the good food," Danielle McCall, a member of the Fire Company said. "We were at a monthly meeting and the committee came up with the food and the fun names we had for the week (of the Farm Show) to sell."

McCall, who helps with most of the fire company's fundraising, said, "we had a very successful week at the Farm Show and we will definitely do it again."

The most successful night of the Firehouse Café during the Farm Show was Thursday night which was the wing night. Crowds lined up around the Community Center building for the wings and to help the fire company in the process.

"We wanted to give the community a chance to enjoy wings while watching the parade. It went so much better than we expected," McCall said.

Building on that success, the fire company is holding a wing fundraiser again this evening, Oct. 20. The flavors for sale are Hot, Hot Ranch, BBQ, BBQ Rub, Butter Garlic, Butter Garlic Parmesan, Hot Garlic and Plain.

The fire company is well prepared with more than 200 pounds of wings and 120 pounds of french fries.

The fire company is planning to renovate the kitchen at the Community Center.

"We are having these fundraisers to meet our goal, [which] is to have the all the kitchen appliances there and do dinners once a month, just like other area fire companies," McCall said.

The fire company is now officially an IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which means donations made to Community Center are tax-deductible.

The next fundraiser for the fire company following Wing Night is the BYOB Mystery Bingo on Nov. 5. There will be 20 games of bingo with prizes for all ages.

Those interested in attending should contact Danielle McCall at (814) 937-0107 for tickets. Besides bingo, there also will be food available for purchase, rip tickets and a 50/50. All the fundraising will benefit the fire company.

Those planning to attend the Bingo event are urged to bring an item for Mending Hearts as those who do will be entered for a special prize.
