Saturday (Oct. 1) ushers in what is one of the most eagerly anticipated seasons on many sportsmen's calendars. It is the opening of the seven-week archery deer season.
Archers have been preparing for the big day for months. Some have built "food plots" where they hope deer will present themselves for close shots. Others have repaired old permanent deer stands, while others have moved portable stands to locations where they expect deer to travel. Having tried archery deer hunting for only one season 16 years ago, I acknowledge that the season occurs at an interesting time. The weather can vary...
