Fire Destroys Barn

Fire destroyed a two-story barn and several pieces of equipment on the Melvin Closson farm along Route 36 near Roaring Spring. Closson’s 12-year-old grandson, David, discovered the fire, and his sister, Sharon, called it in.

Mrs. J. Leonard Furry of New Enterprise was the grand sweepstakes winner of the Morrisons Cove Community Fair held at Memorial Park, Martinsburg. The junior sweepstakes winner was J. Clayton Shriver. He was a sixth grader at Martin School in Martinsburg.

A farm accident in Huston Township claimed the life of a 28-year-old father of three. Marion Donald Miller of Williamsburg RD was killed when he fell onto the conveyor while filling silo at a farm in Clappertown.

A Potter Creek Watershed Association was formed under the guidance of the Bedford County Soil and Water Conservation District to supervise conservation activities along Potter Creek. Ray Snyder was elected president.
