Dragon Football Finds its Footing

Coming off a two-week losing streak, the Dragons traveled to Forest Hills thirsty for a win on Friday. A strong offensive attack paired with a strong defensive front gave the Dragons a spectacular 39-16 win.

After starting the game on defense, the Dragons were able to force a punt from the Rangers, giving them the ball. A short drive later, the Dragons scored with a 13-yard pass to Hunter Smith. The Rangers scored early in the second quarter, only for the Dragons to score on the next drive, ending with one-yard run from Smith. Shortly after, Jason Clark caused a fumble for the Dragons’ defense, giving them back the ball. This in turn allowed the Dragons to score again with an 18-yard pass to Clark to end the half with a score of 20-7.

After a successful onside kick from the Rangers, but the inability to score, the Dragons headed another scoring drive, ending with a 22-yard pass to Jacob Benton. Soon after, the Dragons caused a turnover and were back on offense to be called for holding penalties for five straight plays in a row, ending with a safety for the Rangers. Heading into the final quarter, the Dragons scored once again with a 13-yard pass to Kade Rhule. The Dragons caused another turnover, allowing another scoring drive for the Dragons, ending with a one-yard run from Jeff Hoenstine. The Rangers were able to score once more in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to surpass the Dragons’ monumental lead.

Hoenstine completed nine of 20 passes for 160 yards. Rhule rushed for 69 yards over 10 carries, while Smith rushed for 38 over eight. Overall, the Dragons had 363 yards as compared to the Rangers 189.

This victory leaves the Dragons with an even record of 2-2, heading into next week’s game against the Chestnut Ridge Lions.
