Claysburg-Kimmel School Board Awards Contracts For Athletic Project

The Claysburg-Kimmel School Board met on Wednesday Sept. 7, and again on Wednesday, Sept. 14 and continued to award contracts for the athletic project.

During its Sept. 7 meeting, the board awarded the electrical contract to Mashan Inc. in the amount of $51,900. Two bids were received and Mashan was chosen after reference checks were done.

The board also approved the $1.188 million contract with L.S. Fiore, pending solicitor review, to complete the football stadium. Fiore was awarded the contract during the board’s August meeting and this month’s action formally approved it. The board also approved a contract extension from the original 180 days, setting a completion date of May 9, 2023.

With Fiore’s contract approved, the board authorized the district administration to seek proposals for outbuildings for the athletic project. Last month, the board decided to hold off on certain items for the athletic project such as a wellness center, concession stand, dugouts, and storage. The administration has now been granted authorization to pursue other options for the project.

The board also determined that the athletic field scoreboard is a surplus and authorized the administration to donate as appropriate.

During its Sept. 14 meeting, the board continued to discuss the athletic project and its progress. The board also discussed options for funding the anticipated remaining cost of the project and directed the administration to pursue options for borrowing while continuing to explore securing donations.

The board also voted unanimously to award a $1,604,785 contract, pending solicitor review, to Force Turf Solutions for the turf for the athletic project.

In other action during its Sept. 7 meeting, the board appointed Janell Henderson acting principal of the elementary school. The board approved a Memorandum of Agreement between the school district, the Claysburg-Kimmel Education Association, and Henderson, setting the terms and conditions with a stipend of $75 per day for services performed as acting principal, retroactive to Aug. 23.

The board also approved the following agenda items: recommendation to approve the School Mental Health and Safety Grant; recommendation to grant real estate tax exemption to the Greenfield Township Municipal Authority in accordance with the Consolidated County Assessment Law; recommendation to approve an addendum to the agreement with ESS Northeast LLC to include substitute nurses; recommendation to approve the Memorandum of Understanding with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Blair County; and the recommendation to approve the letter of agreement with UPMC Western Behavioral Health of the Alleghenies for 2022-23.

The board also approved the collective bargaining agreement with the Claysburg-Kimmel Education Association for the term July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2028.
