Stanley R. Over, 76, of The Villages, Fla., formerly of Martinsburg, went home to be with his Lord, Tuesday morning September 6, 2022, at his daughter’s home in Carlisle, due to complications from cancer.
He was born March 31, 1946, in Roaring Spring, son of the late Jerre R. and Marjorie E. (Baker) Over. On Sept. 18, 1965, he married Shirley Ickes at the Martinsburg Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley of 56 years; a daughter, Lisa Moore (Bruce) of Carlisle; a son, Jeremy Over (LouAnn) of Martinsburg; six grandchildren: Megan, Julia and Ross Moore, Brandon Over, Brittany Cooper (Tyler) and Dillon Over; five great-grandchildren: Tristan, Lilly “Pad”, Owen, Rhea and Oran; and a sister, Janet E. Over of The Villages, Fla.
Stanley was a 1964 graduate of Central High School, Martinsburg and attended the Williamsport Technical School. He was employed for RCA in Lancaster for seven years and in 1972, Stanley returned to the cove, where he purchased Over’s Country Store in Martinsburg from his father, Jerre. Stanley owned and operated the store for 45 years, with his son, Jeremy managing the business the last 15 years.
He attended both Martinsburg Memorial Church of the Brethren and the Freedom Fellowship Church in Wildwood, Florida. Stanley loved spending time with his family, especially his grand and great-grandchildren and being outdoors. He also enjoyed riding his Harley and bicycle, playing pickle ball and flying planes.
A celebration of life took place Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022 at Martinsburg Memorial Church of the Brethren. Eric Martin and Andre Wenger officiated. Interment was held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
