Curryville Pastor Gives Donkeys a Home

Pastor Chris Heinlein from Curryville Church of the Brethren, located on Curryville Road in Martinsburg, shared his tale on his two donkeys. Their names are Ted and Fred, and they are beautiful white donkeys who are brothers. The donkeys are about 5 or 6 years old according to Pastor Heinlein’s vet.

These two donkeys live at Heinlein’s home on Cove Mountain Road and are cared for by his wife Kathy and himself. The donkeys were rescued from a farm in Somerset after the owners of the farm became unable to care for all the animals related to health problems.

Heinlein has a son who was having trouble with coyotes killing his calves. Donkeys will kill coyotes and some small animals. But after having the donkeys and becoming attached to them, Heinlein could not give them up.

Donkeys need special feed that helps with their digestion. They make good watch dogs and will let owners know if anything comes around. They are both very friendly and they eventually will be harnessed to a buggy for the Heinleins.

Curryville Church has a breakfast every Thursday morning open to all at Traditions Restaurant in Martinsburg. Sunday worship is at 9:30 a.m. and Sunday School is at 10:45 a.m. A meal is planned once a month at the church and every Wednesday evening they meet up for ice cream rotating between Ritchey’s Dairy and Stock’s Dairy Delight.

Anyone seeking information on the church can call Pastor Heinlein at (814) 793-2449.
