Central Senior Helping to Lead Third Cove's Got Talent

Talented folks of the Cove have the chance to show off their unique abilities, thanks to one student's senior project.

Rebekah Disney, an upcoming senior at Central High School, decided to take the lead role in putting together the Cove's Got Talent program that will take place Saturday, Aug. 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Morrison's Cove Memorial Park banquet hall.

This will be the third Cove's Got Talent program. Disney helped with the show that took place last year. The money raised goes to Cove Cause for Cancer, an organization that holds a special place in Disney's heart.

"I have helped Cove Cause for Cancer for three years," she said. "It is a great organization that helps local cancer patients, and I wanted to continue to support them."

Central High School requires all students to complete a senior project. Requirements for it include that it must be community-based and then receive approval from the student's teacher. Disney had chosen community outreach for her topic, which turned into working on Cove's Got Talent.

"I was already helping to prepare for this year's when I had to do my senior essay," she said. "Getting inspired by something I was already a part of, I decided to do Cove's Got Talent as my senior project."

She said that it also made sense because it involves her future career plans, as well.

"I want to go into working with this project and cause since I want to do cancer and genetic research," she said.

Another reason Disney chose to work with the talent show was because of the enjoyment she got out of working on it last year.

The talent show is for anyone and any talent. Due to there being no age requirement, Disney said that she encourages everyone to sign up.

"There are four categories: singing, dancing, music, and other talents," she said. "You can go solo or do groups."

Along with the talent show, Cove Cause for Cancer will be holding Party in the Park. This event will include other festivities such as corn hole, a pool party, food and vendors. The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. until 11:30 p.m.

Disney said she could not have put the show together without the help of Tim Guyer, one of Cove Cause for Cancer's founders.

"He is the one that originally started Cove's Got Talent," she said. "He put together an amazing show the first year."

Though the original sign-up date was due July 31, Disney said they will be taking applications until Saturday, Aug. 13.

Disney said she is excited about the show and cannot thank Guyer enough for everything he has done to help her out.

"I am grateful for all of the advice he has given me," she said.

The fee to watch the show is $1 for children and $2 for adults. Registration fees vary depending on the number of performers per act. Solo acts or teams of two are $5, 3 to 4 members are $10 and any group with five or more are $15.

Those interested in participating can contact Disney at (814) 931-4885 or bekahdisney05@gmail.com. They can also contact Guyer at twiggy@atlanticbb.com or (814) 935-3328. From there, they will send a registration form that will help ensure their spot in the program.
