Cheer Practices Canceled

The Claysburg-Kimmel School Board unanimously voted to cease all secondary cheerleading practices for an unspecified length of time. The board had not hired a cheerleading advisor, and the squad was not permitted to practice without an advisor. The board hoped to fill the position by the beginning of football season.
Landon Barton of Woodbury donated a kidney to his father, Mike, also of Woodbury. Mike had a degenerative genetic disease that had decreased his kidney function to the point that only a transplant would save his life. The transplant was performed at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Store Manager Leroy Whipple cut the ribbon at the grand opening of the new Sheetz store in Claysburg. Hundreds of people were in line when the store opened at 8 a.m. on August 9. It was the 426th Sheetz store to open.
Kellee Clark was named “Little Miss Claysburg” in the 18th annual pageant. Diana G. Dively was the pageant hostess and coordinator.
