Prediction Correct

The “Almanac man” was correct in predicting the eclipse of the sun on Thursday last. The eclipse made its appearance at the time scheduled and was viewed by many of our citizens through smoked glass. Lenning made a successful negative of the phenomena.
Dr. Wm. D. Hall, a well known and highly successful physician of Altoona, died at his home. Dr. Hall was born in Montour county, June 22, 1845, and was prominent in Grand Army circles.
Fifty bushels of wheat in thirty minutes is the record of threshing done at the farm of Jacob D. Rhodes east of town. The threshing was done by Andrew Deihl.
Misses Maud Shiffler and Mary Shoenfelt, while picking black berries on the Elmer Umbower’s farm, saw two large copperhead snakes. We didn’t know you could run so fast, girls. Absence of body is better than presence of mind in such cases.
