Richest Wheat Crop in History

Herald of July 31, 1947

Cove farmers harvested their richest wheat crop in history. Good ripening weather and the increased use of combines brought the golden flood to mills and railroad sidings at an unexpected rate. Never before was the harvest so golden at $2.20 a bushel, right out of the field.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Logue of Woodbury were guests on the “Honeymoon in New York” NBC radio show while on their honeymoon. The bride, the former Miss Janet Hall, received an evening gown, six pairs of nylon hose, a coffee maker, an electric cooker, a set of china dishes and a 56-piece set of silverware. Mr. Logue received a 21-jewel Bulova wrist watch, gloves and air conditioning for their home, as well as other items.

The Hersberger Garage purchased a new Traffic King Wrecker mounted on a 1947 Chevrolet truck chassis. The truck was painted green and the working parts of the wrecker were finished in silver. It was designed to lift by the front or rear axle eliminating damage to modern grills and bumpers.
