Rooms Rates Increasing

Nason Hospital was increasing its room rates by $5 a day effective August 1. The rates increased to $63 a day for a private room, $54 or $56 for a two-bed semi-private room, $53 for a four bed room, and $29 for nursery care.

The bankrupt Penn Central Railroad announced plans to abandon the Curryville Spur railroad. The railroad considered the line redundant but the main user of the railroad, Agway, said that they were shipping well above the minimum number of carloads required. Local officials feared the Martinsburg line would be cut next.

North Woodbury Grange No. 1923 was celebrating its 50th anniversary with a banquet at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Martinsburg. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Glass of Martinsburg and Ray Benner of Martinsburg RD 1 were honored for being 50 year members.

James Berkebile was named manager of Family Fashions, formerly Klevans, in Roaring Spring.
