Martinsburg
Charles Eugene Decker, 83, of rural Martinsburg, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 6, 2022, at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, Roaring Spring.
He was born Sept. 16, 1938, in Rainsburg, Bedford County, son of the late Walter Cletus and Alma (Ferguson) Decker. On Dec. 8, 1956 he married Patricia Ann Butler in Roaring Spring. She preceded him in death May 23, 2021, after 64 years of marriage.
He is survived by four sons: Rodney E. Decker (Lori) of Plum Creek, Barry A. Decker (Vicky Defibaugh) of Bedford, Charles W. Decker (Tammy) of Martinsburg and Brian S. Decker (Ann) of Montrose; a daughter, Michelle Y. Rightenour (Lee) of Martinsburg; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three sisters; Donna Mae Horton of Henrietta, Connie Clark of Everett and Judy Musselman of Bedford; and a brother, Donald “Donnie” Decker of Tatesville.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Decker.
Charles attended school in Bedford. While growing up in Bedford County he worked on his family’s farm. Charles later began his truck driving career locally, driving for Kenneth Furry, who he bought his first truck from. He then drove as an owner/operator for 21 years for E.F. Smith Inc., Roaring Spring, was employed as a fuel truck driver and diesel mechanic for Gulf Oil in Altoona and for many years, drove truck and operated equipment for T.L. Long Excavating of Henrietta.
Charles loved spending time with his family, the B.C.O. Think Tank and with his morning McDonald’s Coffee Gang. He also enjoyed boating, fishing and his pet boxers.
A graveside service was held Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Diehl’s Crossroads Church Cemetery, rural Martinsburg.
