Denis Wayne Royer

Denis Wayne Royer passed away May 22, 2022, at the age of 75.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his sister, Margo, and his nephew, Adam.

Denis was born in Altoona, PA and spent his childhood in Williamsburg, where he participated in high school sports, mostly football and basketball.

He attended Penn State University, playing basketball for them.

Denis joined the Navy and spent his time aboard the carrier, USS Saratoga. When he was honorably discharged, he went to work for Congoleum, his territory being Detroit. He saw that carpet was much more interesting, so he went to work for Trend carpets, southern Michigan and northern Ohio being his territory.

When Trend folded, Denis headed for California to join his sister and family.

He and Art Othen were partners selling several different brands in Orange County and San Diego County. Denis was Salesman of the Year but had his sights set on working for himself.

Carpet Club came into being with a van sporting shingles on top with the idea of bringing carpet samples to the home. That idea grew until Denis needed a warehouse, then a showroom. His next goal was to have his own building, which he accomplished in 1996. Carpet Club, in Escondido Cali., continued to flourish until he sold the business in 2017 and retired.

If you would like to make donations in his name, please send to the Floor Covering Industry Foundation (fcif.org).
