Dragon Softball Heating Up for Playoffs

In the past week, the Lady Dragons faced the Central Cambria Lady Red Devils, the Richland Lady Rams, had a double-header against the Bishop Guilfoyle Lady Marauders, and finished the week against the Philipsburg-Osceola Lady Mounties. The Lady Dragons found victory against the Lady Red Devils 9-1, the Lady Marauders 18-0 and 20-1, and the Lady Mounties 5-2. However, the Lady Dragons lost to the Lady Rams 5-4.

Against the Lady Red Devils, the game was scoreless up until the seventh inning, where both teams each brought in one run. In the extra innings, the Lady Dragons erupted with eight runs brought in while keeping the Lady Red Devils from scoring, securing the victory. Lacey Lynn threw a one-hitter, striking out 18 to pick up the win. Lynn also had three hits, including a two-run home run and three RBIs. Averey Black, Maya Hazenstab, Madison Kennedy, Ashlyn Renner, Bralyn Ellis, Aubrey Rhodes, and Lynn all connected on multiple hits throughout the game.

Against the Rams, the Lady Dragons kept the game close the entire time. The Lady Dragons brought in two runs in the second inning while limiting the Lady Rams to only one. The Lady Rams were able to bring in another run in both the third and fourth innings, but the Lady Dragons kept the game tied by bringing in one in the fourth as well. The Lady Rams took the lead by scoring another in the fifth. The Lady Dragons tied yet again with another run in the sixth. Sadly, the Lady Rams took the final lead in the last inning with one last run. Kennedy had nine strikeouts pitching for the Lady Dragons. Lynn had a home run and scored two runs. Ellis doubled and scored two runs as well. Rhodes had two hits, while Regan Dodson and Taylor Stock each had an RBI for the Lady Dragons.

In the first game against the Lady Marauders, the Lady Dragons exploded with a 14-run start in the first inning. After four more in the second, the game was an easy victory for the lady Dragons. Hazenstab and Stock each had two hits and three RBIs in game one of the double header. Lynn had a home run and Kennedy was the winning pitcher. In the second game, the Lady Dragons, yet again, brought in 14 runs in the first inning. This was followed by six more runs in the second, securing another Dragon victory. Lynn hit two home runs, while Stock hit one. Coach Burket said, “We had a great emotional win over Central Cambria on Monday. Then, we had a letdown yesterday versus Richland and lost a close one. It was nice to see the girls bounce back today and pick up two victories.”

In the final game of the week, the Lady Mounties scored their only two runs of the game in the first inning, with the Lady Dragons scoreless. However, one run in the second, as well as four runs in the fifth secured a Lady Dragon victory. Lynn struck out 13 and had zero walks in the complete game victory. Kennedy had two hits and two RBIs for the Lady Dragons. Stock and Dodson each had an RBI for the Lady Dragons as well.

The end of the week brings the Lady Dragons record to 16-2, heading into their next week’s game against the Forest Hills Lady Rangers. After the Forest Hills game, the regular season will be over as the Lady Dragons prepare for playoffs.
