A piece of property hosting softball fields at the Claysburg-Kimmel High School was a topic of discussion at the Greenfield Township supervisor’s meeting on May 3.
Richard Gergely, Claysburg-Kimmel school board president, and Jeremy Knott, school board member, were present at the meeting to discuss the township-owned piece of property along Athletic Field Drive. The lot is adjacent to the school’s football field and is leased to the district by the township.
The district’s representatives proposed buying the piece of land to aid upcoming improvements that are planned for the athletic facilities. Township supervisors said they were willing to entertain the idea and planned to have the two parties’ legal teams connect with each other to explore what would be needed to make the sale possible.
The district is “excited about moving forward,” Gergely said.
Board members voted to provide $70,000 to the Claysburg Volunteer Fire Company and $30,000 to the Blue Knob Volunteer Fire Company through funding made available by the American Rescue Plan. In addition, supervisors voted to provide the Claysburg Area Food Bank, Claysburg Area Public Library, and Claysburg American Legion Post 522 with $2,500 each.
In total, the township has $207,000 in federal funding for COVID-19 relief available. Supervisors are still considering what to do with the remaining funds, which could include providing additional funding to the same organizations, the purchase of generators to power township facilities in the event of outages, or other projects or programs.
Supervisors voted to repair damaged guide rail along Champion Road at a cost of $3,560. The board approved heating upgrades to the township’s highway garage by Riley, Inc. for $11,649. The building’s heating source will be switched from oil to natural gas.
Jordan Oldham, board president, said the project has been in the planning stages for many years. He said it was challenging to find a company that provided underground service to connect to natural gas.
Oldham and Boardmember Joe Claar voted in favor of the project. Member Alex Musselman abstained from voting because he is employed by the company.
The Greenfield Community Center floor will be re-waxed at a cost of $1,150.
