Rev. Dunmire to Speak

Herald of May 13, 1897

Rev. W. W. Dunmire of Altoona, “the speaking and singing patriot”, was scheduled to lecture at the Zion church in Martinsburg. The subject of the lecture was “Beware of Foreign Influence”. Rev. Dunmire was known for both his singing and lectures, and was greeted with some of the largest audiences in the state.

Anna Mary Cora, aged 16 years, 7 months and 23 days, the only child of Aaron Z. and Clara Bulger of Martinsburg, died at the home of her parents. The deceased was stricken with the measles, but by care and good attention, recovered so far as to enable her to be with family again. A relapse followed which her frail bark was unable to withstand, and on Sunday when all nature was in bloom with the newness of life, her spirit took its flight to that brighter and happier world.

Six young men decided to “go west” one night. They got as far as Gallitzin, when five made up their minds to return home.
