Williamsburg to Get Another Bank

When news broke in January that Mid Penn Bankcorp., was closing its Williamsburg branch, it appeared that the borough would lose its second bank in five years, leaving residents and officials wondering where they would do their banking.

However, the announcement last week that PennCrest Bank, headquartered in Altoona, has entered into a purchase and assumption agreement with Mid Penn to operate the bank in Williamsburg has been met with a sigh of relief.

“This is a great thing,” said Williamsburg Mayor Ted Hyle. “We are getting a bank that may stick around for a while.”
