For the NBC FBLA, encouraging people to develop future career skills is more than just within the club. A few months ago and continuing recently, members in the Future Business Leaders of America went over to the elementary to teach students lessons on choosing a career and reading books to them. They also hosted a dress up day where students were encouraged to dress as whatever they wanted to be when they grew up. Through these activities, elementary students began to develop skills to identify different career interests. However, the project didn't just stop at the elementary school.
The organization also showed a "Dress for Success" presentation to sixth graders. This showed students in the middle school how to properly dress for interviews and different levels of employment from the FBLA standards. The presentation also showed the students how to properly tie a tie.
Furthermore, the group had student entrepreneurs talk to students about starting their own business. This encouraged more students to make their own businesses and grew awareness of the entrepreneurial industry.
Finally, juniors participated in mock interviews with local business leaders and guest speakers came in to speak about careers, owning a business, and starting a franchise.
The NBC American Enterprise Project team placed first at the State Leadership Conference last week in Hershey and advanced to compete at the National level of the competition in Chicago in late June.
