Oldest Citizen Passes Away

The Angel of Death laid his hand on John B. Skyles, one of Martinsburg’s oldest and best known citizens. Mr. Skyles was born in Taylor Township in 1839 and resided in Martinsburg for fifty-one years at his death. He was a businessman, director and president of the Martinsburg Bank, and a stockholder in the Herald Printing Company.
C. H. Detwiler, solicitor for the Morrison’s Cove Telephone company, was reported somewhat incapacitated because of an annoying carbuncle on his right arm.
Miss Martha Furry of Oak Grove was a weekend guest at the home of Elias Baker.
Mrs. Alice Watkins visited her friend Mrs. L. B. Stoudnour for Easter and had the pleasure of returning home in Mr. Stoudnour’s new Hudson coach.
Two police officers in New York testified that a goat trained to eject undesirables butted them out of a house they were raiding during an illegal craps game.
