Uriah Sipes Passes Away

Herald of April 8, 1897

Uriah Sipes of Martinsburg died at the age of 69 years, 2 months. As a young man he learned the trade of marble cutting at the shop of Mr. Shearer in Williamsburg. He worked as a bookkeeper for Adolphus Patterson, then moved to Gaysport to work for Edmund Patterson. When E. Patterson moved his store to Martinsburg, Mr. Sipes moved as well. He was remembered as an affectionate husband and kind father.

Potatoes were selling for fifteen cents a bushel.

New stables were erected on the properties of Henry Wolfkill and S. S. Layman, South Market street, Martinsburg.

We rejoic...
