Roland J. "Sonny" Gorman

Roland J. “Sonny” Gorman, 87, of Duncansville, passed away Tuesday March 22, 2022 at UPMC-Altoona.

He was born Oct. 13, 1934, in Plum Creek, son of the late Raymond W. and Kathryn L. (Baughman) Gorman. He married Rose H. Eger May 27, 1952, in Altoona. She passed away July 20, 2020.

He is survived by seven children: Wes (Jackie), Irene Walters, Mark (Connie), John (Melinda), Helen Miller (Robert), Guy (Valerie) and Robin Felix (Brian); daughters-in-law: Jeanie and Karen; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons Paul and Alan, a granddaughter Angel, two brothers Carl and James and two sisters Sally Helsel and Rosemary “Het” Imler. Roland was the last surviving member of the Gorman family.

Sonny was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Newry. He retired as a cement truck driver from New Enterprise Stone & Lime in 1997 after 28 years of service. He was previously employed at Clarence Mowery’s Farm, Bakers Summit and the Claysburg Brick Yard.

Sonny enjoyed cutting firewood, gardening, hunting, spending time with his grandchildren and listening to a good story that would make him laugh.

He was known as Sonny, Sunshine, dad, pap and white hair pap and will be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially by two grandsons that called him white hair pap.

A Funeral Mass was held Monday, March 28, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Church, Newry. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Humane Society.
