Henrietta Sportsmens Club is a beautiful club located at 1448 Henrietta Road, Martinsburg, on 17 acres of ground. This includes their own fish nursery.
There is 125 members in this club, and they are always looking for more. Those interested can call Steve Colbert at (814) 369-0649.
This club is kid friendly. There is a baseball field, a walking trail, swing set with sliding board available.
On Wednesday, March 23, a shotgun shoot was held. This was number six of seven for the spring. The shoots will start up again on Thursday, Oct. 5, for eight consecutive weeks.
This shotgun shoot is an offhand, which means no placing the gun on a rest. Various meats were some of the prizes.
There were also small games of chance going on most of the evening.
Saturday, March 26, this club started loading brown, rainbow, and Palomino trout on to their aerated trucks to begin stocking fish in Clover Creek at 7 a.m. They estimate they will stock over 2,000-plus fish this year. Children’s day for fishing started on this date and trout season officially opens on April 2 at 8 a.m.
Children under 16 do not need a license but need to be with a licensed adult.
This correspondent participated by counting the number of trout netted out of the nursery and place in buckets. This is a quick process with the men standing in the water with the fish and quickly pouring them in buckets and immediately placed in the aerated tanks on the trucks waiting to be placed in the stream.
Some of the fish were raised from 3 inches long in July and got to be 13-14 inches now. Nursery Manager is Wayne Colbert. They will be stocked in Clover Creek which is 15-20 miles long.
A fundraiser featuring a chicken barbecue will be done on April 30 starting at 11 a.m. at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park. Call Colbert or any club member for tickets.
This club will have a hunter’s safety course on Oct. 14. This is for 11 years of age up. The club has been seeing an increase in the number of girls taking this course, and the ratio is about 50/50.
The president of this club is Cork Johnson, vice president is Jay Burk, secretary is Thad Spiridigliozzi and treasurer is Evan Bressler. Trustees are Daryl Stauffer, Kevin Albright and George Detwiler.
