Robert "Max" Longenecker

Robert “Max” Longenecker, 80, of Clappertown, entered into the presence of his lord and savior Sunday evening, March 13, 2022, on he and Gaynelle’s 57th wedding anniversary.

He was born Nov. 27, 1941, at home on Thanksgiving Day in Clappertown, son of the late Lester M. and S. Naomi (Guyer) Longenecker. On March 13, 1965, he married his school sweetheart, Gaynelle Waite.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Gaynelle; a son, Mark Longenecker (Lori); a daughter, Amy Kennedy (Keith); six grandchildren: Jerod Stiffler (Lauren Chandler), Justin Stiffler (Angie), Janelle Stiffler (Joseph Bertres), Miles Longenecker (Izis Miranda), Mason Longenecker (Shawna), and Madison Longenecker (Carter Cerully); five great-grandchildren: Payton and Malachi Stiffler, Avery and Reece Longenecker, and Mazeme Bertres; four sisters: Ruth Morgan, Mildred Keagy, LaDonna Biddle, and Emily Grannas; and two brothers: W. Dale and Harry L. Longenecker.

He was preceded in death by a son in 1974, R. Matthew; great granddaughter, Emery Grace Stiffler; two sisters: Martha McIntyre and Dorothy McCall; two brothers: Harold A. and Marlin E. Longenecker; a special brother-in-law, Bill Stultz; a special niece, Corina Frye and a special nephew, Jeff Grannas.

Max was a member of the last graduating class of Morrisons Cove High School in 1960.

He served in the United States Army in 1962, where he was stationed at Fort Knox, Ky. Max went on to work for two years at GE, Philadelphia and in 1966 returned to the Cove to join his father, Lester and brother, Dale at Longeneckers Inc. where he still is part of the business. In keeping with his working spirit, he joined his son in 1997 to help start M&M Equipment and also worked for many years as a salesman for the Local Seeds Co. of Jersey Shore.

Max loved spending time with his family, especially on their many trips to Pigeon Forge, Tenn. and also enjoyed attending all his grandkids and great-grandkids school and sporting events.

Max took great pride in restoring antique cars, trucks, and Massey-Harris tractors. He was an avid tractor puller competing at many Southern Cove Power Reunion events.

Friends will be received from 5 until 8 p.m., Friday, March 18, 2022, at the Smithfield Church, rural Martinsburg and from 10 until the 11 a.m., Saturday, March 19, 2022, where a funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. at the church. Pastor James Snyder will be officiating. Private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
