NBC Alumni Association To Meet

Graduates of Replogle, Smith, Woodbury and Northern Bedford high schools are invited to be involved in a new alumni association known as NBCSD Alumni.

A dinner is planned for Oct. 8 at the Southern Cove Fire Company building in New Enterprise. More details including cost will be announced both by letter, through the internet and in the news media.

Robert Little, president of the group, and Phil Leber, vice president, both graduates of NBC Class of 1959 took the reins following the closing of the Replogle Alumni group in 2019. They both were Replogle students for the first ten years of their public education. The first dinner meeting led by Little was attended by about 100 people in September of 2021. At that time, it was unanimous that an alumni group be continued.

Little says it is obvious that a Replogle Alumni cannot survive many years without adding the Northern Bedford graduates. The Replogle Alumni Association had dues which were put into an annual $1,000 scholarship fund for NBC graduates. As funds grow, members will have input on various financial goals such as scholarships or educational improvements.

“However,” Little said, “We are starting from scratch with zero dollars after postage expenses.”

Funds amounting to about $7,000 in the Replogle Alumni account were turned over to the NBC School District prior to new alumni group was formed.

The committee – including Linda Lloyd, Susan Barton, Phil Leber, Roger Claycomb, and Robert Little, all 1959 Replogle graduates; Mary Anne Whited and Linda Williams, class of 1958; Eleanor Phillips, class of 1961; Jay Wyles, class of 1962; and Dave Snyder, class of 1953 – have agreed on annual dues of $10.

In order to get the NBC Alumni off the ground they are asking all those interested to send $10 dues to Susan Barton at 113 Graham Lane, Bedford, Pa.15522 Barton is the treasurer of the group and Phillips is secretary.

Postcards with a “save the date” reminder and basic information will be mailed to alumni up to and including those graduating in 1962. Other graduates from NBC root schools as well as more recent graduates will be welcome to attend but due to postage expense will have to get their information through the news media or via the internet.

Any questions should be directed to Robert Little at [email protected].
