Pastor Lloyd Preaches

A large audience gathered at the Methodist Episcopal Church to hear Pastor J. K. Lloyd preach a sermon on amusements. Pastor Lloyd did not condemn amusements of the proper kind, but left no room for the modern ball, society dance and card playing.

A log home, considered a local landmark, was torn down in Friend’s Cove, Bedford County. The home was built by William McDermett who emigrated from Scotland in the late 1700s. He was a blacksmith and edge toolmaker and operated a trip hammer forge to manufacture axes, hatches, augers and the like. McDermett made his own steel...
