State Police Announces Christmas, New Year's Holiday Crashes and Enforcement Results

The Pennsylvania State Police investigated 488 motor vehicle crashes, which killed six people and injured 90 others, during the Christmas holiday weekend from Dec. 24-26, 2021.

Alcohol was a factor in 8 percent of the crashes, including one fatal crash, and resulted in 181 DUI arrests. State Troopers also arrested 158 individuals on criminal charges and issued 4,007 traffic citations.

More information on 2021 Christmas holiday enforcement, broken down by troop, is available at psp.pa.gov. These statistics cover only those incidents investigated by the state police and do not include incidents to which other law enforcement agencies responded.

Troop G, which covers Bedford, Blair, Centre, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata and Mifflin counties, reported 30 crashes. Of these crashes, one was fatal and four resulted in injuries.

Troop G also saw 7 DUIs and 55 speed violations.

New Year's

During the New Year's holiday weekend from Dec. 31, 2021-Jan. 2, 2022, the Pennsylvania State Police investigated 471 motor vehicle crashes, which killed two people and injured 97 others.

Alcohol was a factor in 8 percent of the crashes, including one fatal crash, and resulted in 278 DUI arrests. State Troopers also arrested 248 individuals on criminal charges and issued 10,233 traffic citations.

Troop G reported 14 crashes with 7 injuries. While there were only 16 DUIs documented by Troop G, there were 337 speed violations.

Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic and mitigation efforts that were in place throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania at the time, statistical information was not collected during the 2020-2021 Christmas and New Year's holiday driving periods.
