Central Pa. World Hunger Association Canning Project Coming Next Month

The Central Pennsylvania World Hunger Association will be having its 48th Annual Meating Canning Project at the Chief Logan Fire Company in Lewistown, Pa. (formally East Derry Fire Company) on Feb. 7-10, 2022. This year the group will go over 3/4 of a million cans of meat produced by this canning site. They have canned at four different locations: Barrville, Milroy, Belleville, and at present Lewistown.

It will not be known until the January meeting if there will be grinding or cutting the meat being canned this year or if masks or face shields are to be worn.

The group is planning to can 30,000 pounds of chicken this year. The group has about 1/4 of the funds needed to complete our project at this time. Price of chicken and turkey are both around $2/pound. All our money comes from donations.

Those willing to be part of the project this year must contact Jesse Diem (717) 348-9577; Sylvanus Peachey, (717) 935-2511; or Jonathan Coldren (canning coordinator), (717) 250-6840, as soon as possible.
