Murder Suspects Captured

Two suspects in the murder of State Police Corporal John S. Valent were captured in Florida. Charles Howard Knisely, 20, and Mark Ray Geddes, 22, were returned to Pennsylvania on a chartered flight that landed at the Blair County Airport. Knisely was a graduate of Central High School and police conducted a manhunt for him in Martinsburg after the trooper’s death in December.

Three CHS graduates stationed in Viet Nam were reunited at a Bob Hope Show in Long Binh on Christmas Day. Spec. 4 H. Lynn Blattenberger of Martinsburg, Airman Jerre R. Hoover of Curryville, and Spec. 5 G. Michael Imes of Roaring Spring were stationed at different military posts across Viet Nam but celebrated Christmas together at the show.

William C. Gill who served as a Blair County Deputy Sheriff and as a police officer in Roaring Spring, died at the age of 79. He began working for the Roaring Spring police department in 1933.
