Alpha Beta Holds Annual Christmas Tea

On Saturday Dec. 4, 2021, Alpha Beta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society held their annual Christmas Tea at the Bedford Middle School. President Becky Johnen presented each member with a hand-quilted hot pad as a reminder of the support and protection offered to each member in DKG. Also, members were recognized for years of membership.

Lori Criswell, membership chair, presented certificates to members celebrating milestones in DKG: Danelle Diehl for five years; Sandy Hoenstine and Patty Valentine for 40 years; and Wanda Clark for 50 years, who received a 50-year pin. Johnen also gave a certificate of membership to the chapter's newest member, Samantha Fickes, a full-time substitute teacher at Claysburg-Kimmel School District.

In other chapter business, Candace Claar of the Nominating Committee, presented a slate of officers for the 2022-2024 biennium. The slate approved by the members is Becky Johnen, president; Tina Smith-Gilbert, first vice-president; Jennifer Harclerode, second vice-president; and Sonya Browell, recording secretary.

Linda Clapper, projects chair, congratulated the group for donating 37 hoodies for children and teens serviced by the Bedford County Children and Youth Agency. The committee also brought five fleece blankets to the meeting for members to complete for the next donation to local institutions. Member Beverly Brumbaugh revealed the new lap blankets being made for folks in nursing homes.

Following the tea served by the Hospitality Committee, the Visual and Performing Arts Committee retold the Birth of Christ through their skit "What Happened in the Barn?" Members portrayed Mary, Joseph, and the Innkeeper's Wife, as well individual barn animals.

The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Live Well Chiropractic in Fishertown, Pa.
