My mom Suzanne is always stuck getting my name when we exchange gifts for Christmas, saying “I’m the hardest person to buy for.”

This, however, inspired my question for the week – what is the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?

Here is what a few had to say:

Marge Troxell: Anything my parents gave me

Nancy Brua: Unexpected Ones

Holly Hamilton: Honestly, probably all of the hope I’ve inspired in others just by doing one thing – I never knew for sure if anyone else would notice.

Stan Grove: 30-30 rifle when I was 13 years old

Ken Westover: Anything my kids got me

David Black: A letter from my father when I was deployed far away during the Christmas season.

Polly Eastep: When I was 11, my dad got me a record player and 2 records, that I didn’t know who the singer was. Cherish that.

Jon McClintock: A Lionel set – and the scary smell as the transformer heated up.

Gordon England: After Christmas Eve 2020 candlelight service, Cindy said yes.

Josey Fetters: Year was 2017 – I found out my sister was pregnant with my amazing niece.

Mary Kensinger: 7 lb. 12 oz. baby girl, 9am Christmas morning.

James Flaig: I have many I could pick from but the one stands out for me was the Johnnny Lightning 500 race track I got when I was 11 years old. My dad and I spent a lot of time together playing with it.

Matt and Cassie Roberts: Salvation!

For me, this is always an easy answer. My mom hit it out of the ballpark when I was around 8 years old. Remember, this is the time when the movie Titanic (as provocative as it was at the time) was a monster hit and the Avon catalog had the necklace that Rose posed with in it. I was desperate for that same exact necklace for Christmas. My mom explained to me that she had tried to order it and it was sold out.

On Christmas Eve that year, my mom said “let’s go for a ride,” and we pulled into the Woodbury Township building and she asked me to get something in her purse, and low and behold – there was the necklace. I don’t have the necklace anymore, but that memory is the best Christmas gift I ever received.
