Roaring Spring Borough: ‘Let the People Vote’ on Plum Creek Mountain Issue
To the Editor:
The Plum Creek Mountain ground was not Roaring Spring Borough Council’s to sell and/or restrict the people from using.
The ground was given to the people of Roaring Spring 125 years ago by past generations for recreational use, as stated in the original agreement. I feel sure that only two of the members of council have been to the property in the last year, that being stated, your letter to the Altoona Mirror was misleading the public to fit someone’s agenda on your board.
The gates you speak of in the letter, that you state have been broken, have been broken for years, garbage on the property is also not true.
Damage to the land well yes I agree the damage was done by you the borough from the clear cut that you had done to the land. You speak of erosion, also caused by you, by clear cutting the mountain soil erosion has destroyed the mountain side from the water that has no place to go. Huge trucks full of timber also helped damage the property. Water puddles with oil in them also damaged the mountain more so than any hikes, ATV riders, horseback riders. I’m calling bull on the liability issue 125 years with no compensation paid speaks for itself.
As for selling the land did you make it public to the people or did you just do what you wanted? So basically, you guys wrote a letter, sent it in mail to the residence of Roaring Spring, that was full of nothing but lies to make you feel better about what you are really doing without the public knowing. Meanwhile, the people who the land was given to have no say in it…… It should be the people’s vote. Not council members who have a need for greed and want land who was given to the people to use to be destroyed. LET THE PEOPLE VOTE.
