Fire Destroyed Barn
Herald of Nov. 26, 1946
Fire completely destroyed the large barn and three silos on the Paul Martz farm along Woodbury Pike. The farm was occupied by Kenneth Martz. Total estimated loss was $14,000. Martinsburg Fire Chief Frank Teeter declared that a portable pump to pump water to the truck would have helped to fight the fire, but at $300 the pump would be a costly purchase.
The supervisors of the Second Street Tin Shop of the P.R.R. in Altoona held a surprise birthday party for their gang foreman, David Herbert Shubert of Martinsburg, familiarly known as Bert. Supervisors called Mrs. Shubert earlier in the day to inform her that her husband would not be home for supper, and that she should not be alarmed when he failed to appear at the regular time.
LLoyd Brumbaugh was elected teacher and coach at Cove High School, succeeding Leon Kensinger. Kensinger accepted a similar position at Altoona High School.
