Herald Editor “Too Poor”

The Herald editor announced that he would not have turkey for his Thanksgiving dinner, “because he is too poor, by reason of the fact that so very many of his subscribers do not pay for their paper.”

John A. Shultz, contractor, had completed Martinsburg’s borough building. The building contained the town council chamber, the fire apparatus and department, and a “commodious hall on the second floor”. The editor commented: ”Thus we score another mark for our town’s improvement. Go and inspect the building”.
