Lowell H. Witkovsky

The Rev. Lowell H. Witkovsky, 89, of Greenville, SC, passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 26, 2021, after a lengthy illness.

Lowell was born on Jan. 26, 1932, to Elden and Ethel (McKimmy) Witkovsky in Jackson, Michigan.

He is survived by his wife Betty (Cockrell) Witkovsky whom he married in 2012.

He is survived by three children: Marlys Hershberger (Terry) of Woodbury, L. David (Kim) of York, and Paul (Julie) of Roaring Spring, three step-children and spouses in the Greenville, SC area, 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three siblings: Charlene Miller Anderson of Greenville, SC, Lila (Lee) Hannahs of Beaverton, MI, and Bill (Lovene) of Irving, Texas.

Lowell was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Bullerman of Muskegon, MI and a step-daughter, Melinda Reeves of Greenville, SC.

After graduation from Coleman High School in 1950, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving four years in Key West, Florida. During those years, he married Delma (Miller) Witkovsky who predeceased him in 2006.

A few years after his return to Michigan, Lowell experienced a call to ministry that led him to move the entire family to North Manchester, Ind. where he graduated from Manchester College with a BA in Religion and Philosophy. He then went on to earn a Master of Divinity degree from Bethany Theological Seminary in Chicago, Ill.. He served as pastor of more than six congregations over his 40 years of active Christian ministry in the Church of the Brethren. After retiring, he served interim pastorates in Everett and Hollidaysburg as well as Chaplain at Morrisons Cove Home.

A public graveside service will be held at the Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg, PA on Nov. 14 at 1:30 p.m. followed by a time of visitation with family members between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. at the Roaring Spring First Church of the Brethren.
