Roaring Spring

Eugene F. McKinney, 95, of Roaring Spring, passed away peacefully Friday morning Nov. 5, 2021, at Homewood at Martinsburg.

He was born Jan. 31, 1926, in rural Martinsburg the son of the late Earl and Ruth (Fluke) McKinney. He married Bonnie Delozier April 8, 1951, in Roaring Spring and she preceded him in death April 24, 2004.

He is survived by three daughters, Melissa Bookhammer of Canonsburg, Becky Bryson and husband Earl of Martinsburg, and Luci McKinney of Wilmington, NC; six grandchildren: Chris Wagner, Valerie Smith, Stacey Wold, Nathan Hinish, Mariel Combs, and Garrett Treese; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and a sister, Larue Dell of Martinsburg.

He was preceded in death by five siblings: Russell McKinney, Esther Herzberg, Sara Bussard, Naomi Peters, and Helen Myers.

Eugene was an active member of the First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring where he was a Deacon Emeritus.

He retired from Appleton Papers in 1992 after 37 years of service. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS Savannah.

Eugene enjoyed hunting, camping, traveling, and he especially loved spending time with his family. He was a 50+ year member of Woodbury Lodge # 539 F& AM, Roaring Spring, and a member of the Roaring Spring Historical Society. He also enjoyed volunteering for the American Red Cross and the Claysburg Food Bank.

Friends will be received from 3 until 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Friday, Nov. 12, in the First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring; Pastor David Crumrine officiating.

Contributions in Eugene’s memory may be given to the First Church of the Brethren – Building Fund.
