Southern Cove Power Reunion Preparing for First Country Christmas Drive-Through Light Show

By JUDITH OTT

Southern Cove Power Reunion met on Nov. 4. The most important topic of discussion was the planning and making of the first Country Christmas Drive-Through Light Show. This is scheduled for Dec. 10, 11, 17 and 18 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The location is 145 Cave Road, New Enterprise.

Christmas Light Show

There will be affordable family fun with light displays from businesses, groups and individuals.

Santa has promised to take time out of his busy schedule to join them, so children are welcome to chat with him and snap a photo. Hot chocolate and cookies will be available.

A ride through in a horse-drawn wagon is available. Attendees can also drive through with a minimal cost.

Any questions can be directed to Event Coordinator Barb Koontz at (814) 494-2040; Bethany Kensinger at (814) 494-2040; or SCPR President Jason Hileman at (814) 494-2388.

A letter has been sent out seeking businesses, groups and individuals who would like to contribute an outdoor light display. An example might be a tractor decorated with lights.

There is no cost for bringing a display. It is asked that those interested bring a sign with the business, group, or name of a person that the display belongs to. The person or group will be responsible for assembling the display with lights and must bring a 100-foot extension cord.

Commitments for displays should be made no later than Thanksgiving, so that an appropriate display site can be set aside for each entry.

Display set up will be Dec. 1 through 6. Contacting one of the committee members if interested.

Those who are unable to commit to a display but would still like to be a part of this advertising opportunity, sponsorship funds are being accepted. This will help cover the cost of advertisement, programs, hot chocolate and cookies. A program will be printed, listing all contributors of displays and sponsorship that will be handed out to each car driving through the event. Each entry or sponsorship will receive one free pass to drive through the event.

A Mrs. Santa Claus is being sought to volunteer for the two weekends.

Other business

President Jason Hileman reviewed old business. There were 195 hookups at the last pull of the year. He remarked this is an increased number as usual. He was glad there were no break downs.

Stone will be put in the driveway in the spring. A dumpster from Kane’s for the grounds will also be added.

Members had a discussion at the last meeting about changing renting of the ground rates. This is due to the recent costs for purchases such as new cement, a dumpster, a new metal roof for the pavilion and a better sound system with new wiring. Those interested may rent this property by calling ahead and getting more information from Jason Hileman at this time. Price includes the pavilion, restrooms and the pop shack.

A new swing will be made for the grounds by Brian Childers.

A raffle tractor is being sought for next year. If you have a John Deere tractor for sale or know of one, please contact Jason Hileman.
