On Sunday, Oct. 3 – the Williamsburg community came together to honor one of their own - Allison Edwards.
For those that knew Allison, her bright smile and love of family, friends and community showed through in everything she did.
According to organizer Valerie Wyland Prough, Allison was a person, who "when she started something, she finished it. She didn't give up. She encouraged others, she helped others in so many ways. She was the friend everyone wanted to have, why because she cared."
Dave Cadle, in his welcoming remarks said Allie "couldn't care less if she got to the finish line-she just wanted to help others to finish."
For the years since her passing, A Reason to Run group has been putting on their annual "Laces for Alli" event in Williamsburg; this year's donations were for one of Allison's loves - animals - the Huntingdon County Humane Society. Over 150 participated in the events - a 5k, a 2 mile walk and a kids walk/run.
Allison's mom, Penny, said of the event, "It was an amazing turn out. It was an amazing day of family, friends and community honoring Alli's memory, the theme of this year's run was "Encourage Others" which is one of the things Allison was known for."
Jeremiah Ross was overall male winner with a finish time of 21.22 (age group 11-13).
Lanne Berkheimer was overall female winner with a finish time of 23.24 (age group 14-15).
Donations of pet food and cleaning supplies were accepted for Huntingdon County Humane Society.
Monetary donations totaled $1,112. They brought an adoptable dog named Midnight, an 8-month-old black lab mix, who walked in the race.
