Football Stars of Yesteryear

The four seniors on the 1952 football team at Replogle High School, New Enterprise, posed for this photo before the start of the season. They are (from left) Bernard Koontz of Carlisle, Pa.; Jim Ferry of Fort Collins, Col.; and David Laughlin and Jim Horton, both deceased.

After graduation, Dave remained a resident of the New Enterprise area and Jim Horton settled in eastern Pennsylvania, later moving to Arizona.

The football tradition established by Replogle High School included two undefeated seasons. It continued after the school merger with R.P. Smith and Woodbury high schools to become Northern Bedford High.

A number of Replogle graduates will gather at noon Friday, Sept. 17, for a reunion at the Replogle Building in New Enterprise, along with Northern Bedford graduates from 1958 through 1961. Some also will be in attendance when Northern Bedford's football team hosts Windber at Panther Community Stadium the same evening.
