Woman Wanted by Roaring Spring Police in Custody

A tip from the Altoona Police Department led to the arrest of an Altoona woman who was wanted by Roaring Spring police.

On Aug. 12, a Roaring Spring police officer was notified by Altoona police that Ashley E. Avery, 33, along with her companion, John Giselman, were at the Roaring Spring laundromat.

Roaring Spring police held an active felony warrant for Avery and Giselman was wanted by both the Altoona police as well as the Blair County Sheriff’s Office.

When police arrived at the laundromat, Giselman was sitting in a pickup truck and Avery was inside the laundromat. Police said Avery walked outside where the officer confronted her and notified both Avery and Giselman that they had active felony warrants and were under arrest.

Police said Giselman was taken into custody without incident, but Avery began “hollering and screaming” at the officer. While the officer was attempting to pat down Giselman, Avery allegedly jumped into the driver seat of the pickup truck and closed the door.

Police said they commanded Avery to stop resisting and after approximately a minute and a half were able to get both her wrists secured in handcuffs. Police said while Avery was resisting arrest, Giselman repeatedly told her to “stop fighting.”

Police said once Avery was placed in the back seat of a patrol car, she kicked the door and pulled on the handle causing it to break.

When police were able to question Avery, she allegedly told them there were drugs in the pickup truck and that they all belonged to her.

After securing a search warrant, police searched the truck and said they found suspected marijuana, a marijuana pipe, multiple packages of methamphetamine, a glass pipe with white residue, two pills suspected to be ecstasy, glass pipes, plastic bags and additional paraphernalia. Police said the total weight of the methamphetamine seized during the search was 19.26 grams and the total weight of the marijuana was 48.08 grams.

Avery is facing felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver, escape and vandalism along with misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was arraigned by Martinsburg Magisterial District Judge Andrew Blattenberger and placed in the Blair County Prison on $40,000 cash bail.
