Curryville House

Our house in Curryville was modest, but the memories were rich.

Our kitchen floor was linoleum. Once a year we moved the kitchen table and chairs and the coal oil stove into the living room so we could paint the kitchen floor. Sometimes it was given a pattern with a sponge. It was significant and we all took a little pride in the great accomplishment.

Although we did not have running water, we had a pump at our kitchen sink. Mother and I washed dishes there and cleaned vegetables. We heated the water on the coal oil stove in the summer and there was a water tank on the side of the cook stove w...
