William M. "Cheezy" Burket

Roaring Spring

William M. “Cheezy” Burket, 72, of Roaring Spring, passed away Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021, at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, Roaring Spring.

He was born Dec. 2, 1948, in Roaring Spring, son of the late Kenneth L. and Irene M. (Hershey) Burket. He was twice married, first to Helen P. Kauffman and then married Mary C. (Thompson) Mittan on May 26, 2001.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Mary; a son, Michael W. Burket (Suzy); a step-son; Jason R. Mittan (Leah); three grandsons: Ethan, Colin, and Cole Edward; a granddaughter, Cora Rose; a sister, Anna Kay Weyant; a niece, Tracey Dennis (Jeff Musselman) and daughter Janelle (Michael Bolino); a niece, Kim Lee (Alvin); and a nephew, Jim Weyant (Kristi) and daughters Emma, Ava, Gracie, and Harper.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, James Weyant.

Bill was a 1966 graduate of Central High School and a 1973 graduate of Saint Francis University, Loretto. He retired as science teacher from the Spring Cove School District after 30 years of service.

He was a United States Army veteran serving during Vietnam from Sept. 1969 until Oct. 1970 attaining the rank of specialist 4th class. Bill was a member of the Roaring Spring American Legion Post 147 for over 50 years, where he served as Commander and Chaplin. He was also a member of the Duncansville VFW Post 8724.

Bill enjoyed traveling, spending time with his grandchildren, golfing at Iron Masters Country Club, and spending time with friends at Lefty’s.

At the request of the deceased there will be no viewing or service.
