Quake Felt in Cove

An earthquake Tuesday afternoon centered in Virginia measured 5.8 on the Richter scale and was felt up and down the East Coast, including the Morrisons Cove area. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake – the strongest on the East Coast in 67 years – happened at 1:52 p.m. and was centered near Louisa, Va., which is northwest of Richmond and south of Washington D.C.
The Murray-Appleman Post 147 of the American Legion in Roaring Spring is working to transform the old school gym nearby into a community building. The old brick gym on Cemetery Avenue is literally only a few feet from the Legion Post at 300 Poplar St.
Blair County 4-H clubs and FFA chapter members took part in the Livestock Show and Sale on Aug. 15 and 16 at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park. The show, which attracted 80 participants, was judged by Chet Hughes from Lancaster.
