Williamsburg's Farm Show Returns After Year Off

It's almost time for that special week in August when Williamsburg welcomes those to the "Biggest Fair in Blair County." The Williamsburg Community Farm Show will be held from Aug. 22 to Aug. 27.

Due to the pandemic, the farm show was not held last year but Treasurer Arianne Waddington said she hopes "the community comes out to show their support."

Because of the pandemic, there will be no rides this year.

Sunday, Aug. 22, will feature the famed car show, the horse show, pet show, the queen contest and then the vesper service. Country and gospel singer Glen Shelton will be playing the stage before and after the queen contest.

Congressman John Joyce will be giving the opening prayer before the vesper service, which will be put on by the Williamsburg Ministerium.

Monday, Aug. 23, is Kids Day. The fire company, police and game commission will have events. The new farm show queen will be presenting a farm show trivia and participants can earn a free ice cream cone.

There will also be a youth tractor and kiddie tractor events, as well as the first annual princess and little miss contest. Closing out the evening will be the milk drinking contest.

Tuesday, Aug. 24, is Senior Citizens Day. Blood pressure screenings will take place between 6 to 8 p.m., with all-ages welcome bingo (under 18 must have adult with them) from 5 to 7 p.m. The Sharptones will be taking the stage.

Wednesday, Aug. 25, will bring Stephanie and the Wild Hearts to the farm show stage. Some of Wednesday's events include a rock wall, dunk tank and a celebrity milking contest with local politicians.

Thursday, Aug. 26, is the biggest day of the farm show with the parade at 6 p.m. The parade route is as follows: starting at the lot near Cenveo; proceeding down 866/West 1st Street to Plum Street onto West 2nd Street; proceeding to East 2nd Street turning onto Spring Street then to East 1st Street, turn on High Street/2015 into Catharine Township to 4th Street; and completing on Recreation Drive.

The lineup will begin at 5 p.m. at Cenveo and will begin at 6 p.m. There is no sign-up this year to the parade – just show up at 5 p.m. There will also be a rock wall, dunk tank and Slingers' Axe Throwing. Unlike other years, Thursday will be the fireworks show at 10 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 27, is the Youth Livestock Auction with pigs, beef and chickens. The livestock auction is coordinated with local butchers. There will also be a tractor pull with garden tractors. Friday's entertainment will be the Warner family, which is a bluegrass Christian group.

"We brought back a lot of entertainment that people seemed to enjoy from years past," organizer Angie Walason said.

There will also be some changes and updates to the fair this year. There will be craft vendors on Sunday and Thursday evenings. One of the biggest updates is the WiFi that extends to most of the farm show grounds. There will also be lots of great food vendors such as Marci's Concessions, Eden Donuts and the Lower Trail Creamery. There have also been updates to the horse ring with a new sound system and other improvements.

Organizers wanted to announce that the auction for entering livestock will be Saturday, Aug. 14.

Organizers also wanted to let citizens know that they welcome all those with ideas to join the farm show board – message on Facebook for more information.

Any students who need community service are also welcome to contact the farm show for community service.

The farm show board also wanted to thank the Trough Creek Youth Forestry Camp for help maintaining the farm show grounds.
