The Martinsburg Fire Company’s annual free corn boil was announced for the upcoming week, with a new feature to be added – a “circus,” presented by the Martinsburg Cub Scout Pack. The Herald reported that “thousands of ears of new corn will be given away to visitors by the firemen, as in previous years. An early variety of corn was planted for this year’s boil so that none of the guests would not have their taste for new corn dulled by earlier feasts.”
