Waterside Loses in Baseball

Martinsburg defeated Waterside 16-4 in the first game played by the Southern Cove team. A front-page story said the game was made disagreeable by “the continuous kicking of Rice,” pitcher and shortstop for Waterside, who was hooted by the Martinsburg fans because he questioned every decision of the umpire.

The spring at Roaring Spring was to be tapped with a four-inch pipe for the benefit of the paper mill.
