12,000 Attend M-burg ‘Picnic’

The Herald’s editor stopped in at the big community picnic held in Martinsburg. He reported the occasion was “all that could be hoped for” with even the weather cooperating. He reported the crowd at 10,000 to 12,000 people, with the town “full of automobiles.” Twelve-hundred meal tickets were sold for one day and events included ball games and music.
The Herald offered a front-page report on the birthday party of Miss Dorothy Weitzel, who was nine years old. She and nine of her “little friends” spent an afternoon with her at her home on North Market Street. The children...
