$15,000 Loss Prevented

Speedy action by a threshing crew and prompt response by the Martinsburg Fire Company prevented a possible loss of more than $25,000 when flames enveloped a straw stack beside one of the largest barns in North Woodbury Township owned by Elwood C. Imler near Henrietta.
Two hard storms passed over the central Cove bringing heavy rain. A lightning bolt hit the corner of the garage at the Oren Whetstone home in Martinsburg.
The largest plane to be used for sight-seeing trips since the airport was built at Martinsburg arrived for flights for five days.
John C. Liebegott, fire chief at Williamsburg for the past 18 years, was the guest of honor at a testimonial dinner held by the Williamsburg Lions Club and was presented with a badge as a token of the appreciation of the townspeople for his services.
Kenneth Helsel, 23, of Claysburg died of a skull fracture suffered when he fell off a lumber truck on which he was riding.
