With Pizza, cupcakes, trophies, trinkets and big splashes in Hersberger Memorial Pool, the Spring Cove Youth Softball league celebrated a successful first year with a party June 30. This was the first year for the all-girls’ softball program to operate independently.

Josh Conly, 26, of Roaring Spring, recently won the men’s “Best Lifter” professional open full-power award for all weight classes at the 2011 International Powerlifting Association’s (IPA) World Championships. The event was held at the York Barbell Hall of Fame Auditorium.

Joshua Kizna of Williamsburg and Courtney Jo Reasy, of New Enterprise, attended the 2011 Rural Electric Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., June 12-17. They joined nearly 1,400 other juniors and seniors from electric cooperatives all over the country who participated in the event, which has brought high school students to Washington, D.C., every June since the late 1950s.
